Christmas Wars: Copplestone Snow Goon #3 - and Yet Another Deco Tree

I have had this finished a couple of days, but the weekend did not leave much time for hobby stuff (buying presents and spending some quality time with the family was prioritised). We also got Whambushed by an Elf on disco rollers when visiting the mall 'Rosengårdcentret' in Odense, which was a bummer (I usually survive Whamageddon. but not this time).

I think some of the 'snow', for instance on the side of the carrot, is actually casting artifacts that should have been filed away; I remember pondering about it when prepping this particular mini.

Christmas Wars: Copplestone Snow Goon #2 - and Another Deco Tree

I managed to finish the second Copplestone Snow Goon today, and also got the base on another cheap decoration tree done.

Shortly from now, this angry fella' will be joining his brother in the display on the sideboard.

I hope to finish the third and last of the Copplestone Snowmen tomorrow, but I also have to get winter tires for the Land Speeder and pick up Lea (and Anna) from Grammar School and drop her off at Lidl in Ringe for her after-school job there (she works seven hours a week on avarage), so I do not know if I shall be able to get enough painting time in.

Christmas Wars: Copplestone Snow Goon #1

As promised, I am painting winter/x-massy stuff to go on display on the sideboard with our  small 'light houses'.

I have never painted snowmen before, so I am learning on the go, and the next ones will be painted with slightly different palettes and techniques - I even may go back and change this pain(t)job.

I should be able to snap some pics of the updated display a little later today, unless we are not binging Cloak & Dagger when Anna and Marianne returns from Faaborg Church where Anna is participating in the Faaborg-Midtfyn Music School Christmas Concert (she has taken up playing the Clarsach this autumn). Sadly Lea and I could not attend, as Lea was at a crochet class in Ringe, and I had to stay home to tend to the Molly and Bella (and walk Molly).

In addition, there's only room for two persons in the car when the Clarsach gets transported. I shall have to settle for her practice sessions until next time.

For now, here is the first Deranged Mutant Killer Snow Goon from other angles:

November Output

November was fairly productive, even a few more models finished than the previous month.

4 Skeleton Archers painted, one Leader rebased.

3 Skeleton Catapult Crewmen painted-

5 Revenants/Skeleton Guards painted.

2 Small Tents painted.

1 Mines of Moria Aragorn painted

4 Mines of Moria columns/pillars painted-

1 Warhammer Quest Barbarian painted.

2 Gravestones painted.

1 Mines of Moria Peregrin Took painted.

2 Middle-Earth Rangers painted.

2 more Gravestones painted.

Another 2 Gravestones painted.

Yet another 2 Gravestones painted

1 old Metal Magic Rogue rebased and repainted/paint repaired-

Yet another 2 Gravestones painted.

1 Mines of Moria Meriadoc Brandybuck painted.

1 Ranger of Ithilien rebased and repainted/paint repaired.

If I have counted correctly, I painted 35 models and rebased and repainted/paint repaired 2 old models in November.

That's OK, I think. December will see a lower count, as I have a lot of iconic pop culture characters and other nice stuff lined up in the pain(t) queue, and they will need more attention than some of the rank.and-file I did in November.

October Output

Taken into account that I came back to the hobby some days into October, I think I have been relatively productive.

Four games played, one of them a solo introduction game, which took me several days to work through, as I had to refer to the rulebook a lot until I had the basics down.

During the week up to the Hell'O'Weekend I prepped, based, and painted up almost an entire sprue's worth of Renedra headstones (17 in all), and a resin pile of skulls I got from a small independent manufacturer some years ago (I sincerely don't remember whom).

These three guys got some TLC and joined my Army of Darkness, hurling stuff at their mortal antagonists.

The archers were a direct consequence of the games I've played, as I felt the need for packing some ranged punch against the mortal instruments of Law and Order.

Finally, this venomous arachnid finally got ready for the table. I started rebasing it onto a large washer a LONG time ago, but in the process of removing from its old plastic base, I broke one of its hind legs, and I kind of dreaded the task of getting it fixed back in its proper place. As it turned out, it was a bit fiddly, but I am pretty chuffed with the final result. It seems that my Undead Host will comprise a Monster Unit next game 😃

All in all 31 minis painted, and one big creature rebased (and quite a few prepping/painting and/or rebasing WIPs on the side). Not too shabby, innit?

Giant Scorpion Rebased

Got this fellow in a (very) large Tomb Kings job lot some years ago, and I have finally managed to finish rebasing, repairing, and spot-painting it (it was painted as seen, but hat 'white holes' where the wash had not covered holes and indents - and I think the camera just captured one I've missed).

More for the Plastic and Lead Alps

Earlier today, I received my June order from North Star Military Figures. The Gnolls are (primarily) for my 'remixed' version of Rangers of the Shadow Deep, the Goblins for mixing in with my LotR Orcs (and providing extra archer arms for the Gnolls), and the Halflings are for my 'Frodo's Quest' Shire spin-off (more about it in a later post).

The Hell Crows are for RotSD (some kind of Crows, the name eludes me right now), and the Frostgrave Barbarian with the two-hander is for Emil's Sellswords & Spellslingers warband.

The Magmites and the Thief are just bonuses, but I shall probably find some use for them.

Cave Troll Rebased

I also managed to get Tiny's base finished for tomorrow's game.

I expect him to be found in the midst of the action, probably taking on Boromir and/or the Knight of Dol Amroth, and it will be interesting to see how he fares against those Human heroes!

In about 12 hours, Emil and I should be stooped over the Age of Fantasy Skirmish table in Argonor's Attic, rolling dice and probably enjoying a beer or two, and with 250 points a side, a game probably lasts for between one and two hours, which would give us time for a re-match if we feel like it.

But that is for tomorrow - now I shall soon be turning in for the night to get some sleep and be fit for tomorrow's ordeal!

Rebasing a Mordor Troll WIP

I did not paint this big fella; he was part of one of the big lots I bought several years ago, but now that we are playing Age of Fantasy Skirmish, he is likely to see some action with my Mordor Orcs, so I thought it wise to get him based on a large washer for added transportability (stability when transported in a box with a magnetic sheet at the bottom).

They Have a Cave Troll!

For Thursday, when I have an appointment with Emil for playing Age of Fantasy Skirmish, I am re-basing this Cave Troll to use as support for my Moria Goblins.

Emil is going to command a Gondor patrol lead by Boromir, so I thought I might need to pack a bit of punch for the encounter, as Boromir and the Knight of Dol Amroth would otherwise surely just cut a swathe through the Goblin ranks.

I may not be able to finish the process in time, as I have to attend classes the next couple of days, but I think I should be able to at least get the base base-coated and covered in sand, so it will have to do as it is for that particular game.

I am also re-basing some Goblins, but I do not expect to use other than the Boss (metal) Goblin - the rest of the hunting party must stay on their slottas for now, while I work on another batch to take their place.

Should Auld Acquaintance...

I just unearthed these two ancient critters - probably perfect for some of the games I play...

Just the other day, I also found this alternative Treeman, and I think that I now have to track down a third one, so that I may use them together in SAGA Age of Magic.

Well, that will have to wait a bit - this upcoming weekend we are attending no less than TWO confirmation celebrations, so we shall be away both Saturday and Sunday, and the little time left is probably required for mending the garden in one way or another.

I love that generic fantasy rules are all the rage these days - I have been doing 'generic' for quite a lot of years, but now it seems to become a mainstream thing to use one's minis for rules not made by the minis' manufacturers. Took the gaming scene long enough...
