Attic Attack 2018 - Cancelled

The rehab of Anna's knees (she had surgery on both) has taken too much of my time the last six months, and I do not feel up to preparing the attic for a gathering this summer, as it would mean a lot of work just after returning from our summer vacation.

Hopefully, next year will be less stressful, and I can get the attic (and the garage) set up for a weekend of fun and games...

As always, it is still possible to arrange games in the attic with me whenever I am home.

New Window for the Garage Attic

Aboujt a week ago, last Sunday, Kevin and his brother gave me a hand with the new window for the garage attic.

I purchased the window two years ago, but the family landspeeder then needed some serious repairs, and I could not find the money for hiring a carpenter to do the job (and I dared not make an attempt on my own).

But when Kevin and I played Black Powder a month or so ago, and it was very hot, I mentioned that I already had a window to replace the old, not very functional, one, and as it turned out, he and his brother had just changed the windows in Kevin's home.

About 1½ hour well spent, and Argonor's Attic can now get vented whenever needed!

This will be a big help the next time I arrange Attic Attack, as the attic has a tendency to get very hot when the sun is shining outside, and it has been hard to breathe up there at more than one occasion.

Attic Attack 2017 - Cancelled

For various reasons, I cannot see myself preparing and hosting an event in the garage attic this year.

This DOES NOT mean that it will not be possible for peeps living within a reasonable distance from me (or, for some reason or the other, visiting Funen) to drop by for a game - it just means that I am not going to set a date for a gathering this year.

As always, I have plenty of tables and minis ready up there, so, don't hesitate to contact me for a gaming appointment!

I expect Attic Attack to return in 2018, so stay tuned for further announcements!

Attic Attack IV: Day 2, God of Battles

Ulrik and Kevin had a go at God of Battles, Ulrik commanding his LotR Dwarves, Kevin taking control over my slightly re-configured Lizardmen army-

The Reptiles advanced in force on the central rock pass.

The Skink Archer company was annihilated by the Dwarven elites...

...but then the saurus Ravagers got stuck in - and made minced meat of the Dwarves!

It was getting late, and Kevin had to leave soon, and with his main unit (and Priest) gone, Ulrik was not very keen on fighting on, so we left it at that.

The beads were marking Miracles on the units, by the way, in case you wonder.

Currently, I am spending all my spare time in the garden, as the weather suddenly turned almost summer-like thi week, so I do not know if I shall have any gaming related news for a while, but if we get some rainy days, I should be able to continue work on my Company of Heroes for Blood Eagle (LotR Fellowship characters), so stay tuned!

Attic Attack IV: Day 2, Dragon Rampant

This is likely to be the last Dragon Rampant AAR from my hand you will ever see, but I shall return to that subject further down the page.

Ulrik and Tobias played a game with my two 35 points warbands (I wanted a slightly bigger game than the one at Ă…con).

The Elves advanced rather timidly, while the reptiles hurried forward.

At this point, Prince Arodon began a long series of Wild Charges which lasted for the most of the reminder of the battle.

The Lizardmen struggled to get through a lot of rough terrain on their right flank.

The current state of affairs is not really reflecting the flow of the game.
At this point, Ulrik (Lizardmen) had missed his first activation roll 4 or 5 times, and the only reason why the Elves did not control more of the battlefield was the very cautios advance made by Tobias.

A lot of Wild Charging and fighting on the Elves' left flank.

The Swordmasters cut through, first the Temple Guards, then the Saurus warriors, leaving only a few weak units for the Lizardmen to retreat.

Ulrik had the same kind of bad experience with this his first game with the 'Rampant' rules as I had with Lion Rampant, failing a lot of Activation Rolls, and seeing his battered units just withering away without any chance of rallying, and I have decided that Lion Rampant is going on the 'tried and rejected' shelf for now. It had its chance, but failed.

We are going to revive SAGA, and try out A Fantastic SAGA (fan-made fantasy rules add-on), and the High Elves at least (but probably the Lizardmen as well, as I have droves of unused models) will be re-configured to fit that system (I may have to find a few more painted models, or, alternatively, paint up some myself *shudder*).

I may also make a Blood Eagle warband out of some of the models, to have more variety at my disposal.

Attic Attack IV: Day 2, DreadBall

A couple of guys from Svendborg arrived Saturday morning to try out DreadBall. My male Corporation team was pitted against some Veer-myn brought by Tobias, who arrived from Odense with Ulrik, and Tobias did the rules teachings and guided the rookies through the match.

I think the game ended 3 up for the rats, and both rookies seemed to have enjoyed the experience. Maybe we shall see a small tournament in the overseeable future...?

Attic Attack IV: Day 2, Blood Eagle

I started Saturday playing my second game of Blood Eagle. Ulrik had brought a homebrewed warband of Gondorians (and a single Dwarf), and they squared off against my Uruk-Hai in another game of Assassination.

I spent most of the game rolling 3s and 4s on the d10, which shows all too well in the pictures below tracking the progress of the game (when I remembered to use my camera).

The game was rather intese, but I was also very frustrated by my many low rolls. Never the less, I managed to dispatch about half the enemy company, before my Leader was downed, but even though I ganged up on the Dol Amroth knight a couple of times, I could not beat his armour.

High Armour values/good Fate should be limited to main characters, I think, and otherwise high Armour should only be used by characters with medium to low Fate, as a character with the first combo can be very hard to dispatch.

As can be seen elsewhere on this blog, I am preparing some members of the Fellowship to be painted for Blood Eagle, and I expect to add Aragorn to my Rohan warband (followed by Legolas and Gimli), which should boost the points and fighting ability nicely.

Attic Attack IV: Day 1, Blood Eagle Part 2

As you can see from the two last pictures from my first game of Blood Eagle, my Rohirrim did not fare well.

We did not finish the game, as Valdemar had to drive back to Fredericia, a 3/4 of an hour's drive from my home, but things were a bit tight for the defenders, and it did not seem as if I could hold out for much longer.

Well, at least I got the rules tried out...

Attic Attack IV: Day 1, Blood Eagle Part 1

Finally got my first game of Blood Eagle played - this time with Valdemar, a new acquaintance met through another gamer's Facebook profile.

I played the Defenders of the East Emnet, while Valdemar took control of the Uruk-Hai raiders.

We played Assassination, as it is a very straightforward scenario, not demanding anything but a designated leader in both warbands.

The Uruk-Hai split up in two groups, one crossing the stream, the other heading for the bridge.

I already made my first tactical blunder here: I should have kept my archers at one flank, adding more bonus to volley fire.
Lesson learned and duly noted.

With the raiders closing in at full speed (running, -3 ranged attack penalty),
my archers could not beat any Armour, even though their lives depended on it.

Battle is joined!
I just realized that I have not edited all the pictures of the game, as some was taken after midnight - and thus I have to finish this AAR in a later post...

Attic Attack IV: Day 1, Star Wars Armada

This year's Attic Attack has come and passed, and it is time to tell tall tales of heroic deeds and dastardly villainy!

First, I played the planned Star Wars Armada scenario with Kevin, a long time acquaintance from Svendborg who was finally able to take some time off family and house to visit the Attic.

I took on the mantle as the Imperial Commander, letting Kevin perform the blockade run.

Set-Up

Opening Moves

Learning to use the Ship Maneuver Ruler/Tool

TIEs swarm ahead!

"Where did they come from?"

Battle is joined, and the Victory-Class Destroyers close in

Chaos ensues!

The Star Destroyers try to come about, but they move too slowly.

A collision occurs, as the captain of a Corvette misjudges the speed of a Star Destroyer.

As the Rebel fighters finish off the last TIEs and begin attacking the Star Destroyers,
 the last Corvette breaks through,
and ensures victory  for the Rebel Alliance

Things came about as I had foreseen, and the scenario was too easy for the Rebels. The Star Destroyers are too cumbersome to turn quickly, and I think that the Empire needs some smaller ships to engage and pursue the Rebel ships early on, while perhaps one or two Destroyers act as backstops.

Also, the Rebels had too many fighters, and I shall try running the scenario with only the X-Wings and two Corvettes, and we shall see if the TIE-Fighters can then soften up the opposition sufficiently for the Star Destroyers to finish up at least one of the Corvettes...

I do, however, think that the Empire needs space superiority (in terms of fighters). plus some smaller ships, to have a chance, but only actual play-testing will show!
