Resistance is Futile!
No idea how it plays, but I am very eager to try it out in a game!Excuse the somewhat blurred picture - the light plays tricks on my camera today.
Dark Times Ahead!
Got this in the mail today, discounted, and with free P&P from Wayland.The Dark Age minis are for SAGA, SBH, our RPG project, and alternative LotR minis (Dunlendings, Rohan, Mirkwood humans, Gondor Fiefdom Warriors, whatever....) - everything I buy must have multiple purposes, otherwise it is not viable to spend time and money on.
I am looking forward to try the Borg Tactical Cube in a game of Star Trek: Attack Wing, as the Borg's relentlessness and near invincibility in the series/movies universe has always fascinated me.
Now, back to carving stairs!

Slow Weekend.
Yesterday, I spent some time painting and almost finishing 2 zeds, but the entire afternoon I was in Odense with my youngest daughter, buying a lot of stuff I need for both hobby- and other purposes.
I got a can of spray varnish for when I start paointing my first DreadBall team (soon, I hope), and a can of Army Painter brown spray primer for my Mantic zeds + some deck boxes for my Star Trek: Attack Wing cards, and my Pulp Alley cards (the PA cards come in a clear acrylic box, but I want to put the cards in card sleeves, and they don't fit in there).
I also got a vice for my workshop in the garage, and some pieces for putting up light in the garage attic I didn't get last time - and some stuff not interesting in this context.
Today, I spent the morning in the garden with my eldest daughter, moving a lot of wood to the 'driveway' in front of the shed, where I cut up firewood.
This afternoon I had to make another trip to Odense, as yesterday I forgot a bag with a shining new pajama in a store. I also tried to get some machine screws for attaching my new vice to the workshop desk, but it proved impossible to get some in the right thickness that are the right length. Instead I bought a 1 m. threaded rod the right thickness, and some washers and nuts - I then have to saw appropriate pieces from the rod, and use those instead of screws.
The rest of the afternoon was spent on preparations for bottling my first batch of home-brewed mead.
I removed front and back labels from 37 wine bottles, and a single Bailey's bottle:
During the coming week I'll remove the tin foils from the bottlenecks, and though I probably have enough bottles for 25 liters of mead (36 bottles containing .70 liter should do the trick), I have another batch of bottles to prepare:
The weather forecast talks about lots of blowing snow tomorrow, so this evening I'll have to cover my stuff in the garage attic with the tarpaulins I bought some weeks ago.
The handball European Championship ended with an embarassing defeat against France in the finals, so I should have more time for getting some painting done, and updating this little blog from tomorrow on...

Star Trek: Attack Wing, 2014-01-02
Ulrik (duregar), Lea, Anna, and I played a 4-way game of ST:AW near the end of my vacation:
Lea played the Federation
Anna played Romulans
Ulrik played the Dominion
I took command of the Klingons
We played the first scenario of the rulebook, as it is a race game nicely suited for multi-player action.
While the other 3 factions started fighting, I beamed up my away team and slipped away to Victory. The Enterprise was hunted Down by the Dominion ship, and finally got blown up.
Next time I play this game, I'll be moving on to the next scenario.

Star Trek: Attack Wing, AAR 2013-12-26, Part 2.
Well,, it took me long enough to get this back on tracks, but this week I'll be doing some catching up on pending posts...
After bumping into the planet, my daughter decided to make a long turn (switching to auxiliary power) to get the Enterprise clear. I made a short move to enter orbit and promptly beamed Down my away team to start collecting mineral samples.
No shooting, as the planet blocked any chance of that.
The next series of pics really tell their own tale:
On my next move I could leave the board via my entry zone, carrying sufficient samples to win the game.
This may seem to have been an easy Victory, but Lea actually came close to crippling my ship, and the Dice Gods could have been kinder to her.
For a first game played by a 7 year old girl, I think she did quite well, and it demonstrates the cleverness of this game engine; it's simple enough for kids, yet with enough tactical depth to challenge seasoned gamers.
I staged this scenario as a four-player affair with my two daughters, my gaming pal Ulrik (duregar), and myself about a 1½ week ago, and while I won that one, too, while the Enterprise was destroyed by the Dominion, it was a really fun and chaotic affair.
But more about that game in another post!

Star Trek: Attack Wing, AAR 2013-12-26, Part 1.
My last game in 2013 was with my 7 years old daughter who played a version of Jean-Luc Picard, who'd probably been too hard at it with the eggnog, judging by the way USS Enterprise-D behaved.
We were playin the first scenario in the rulebook, albeit without the Romulans, as my other daughter (age 10) had found something more interesting to play with (probably her new LEGO Friends yacht).
Both competing ships headed straight for the planet rumoured to contain dilithium.
On the second turn, the Klingons, now fully cloaked, performed a Sensor Echo (dislocating the vessel to the left), while the Enterprise... bumped into the planet. As you can't perform actions while in contact with another object, Picard and Data stayed aboard and proposed another toast...
Despise the confusion aboard the Enterprise, the sensors picked up the Klingons, and as a Cloaked Klingon vessel in the Neutral Zone was a clear violation of... something... the Federation opened up with Phasers (Enterprise D can shoot in other directions than its Forward Fire Arc, up to range 2).
As the Enterprise had to subtract 1 Attack Die due to firing outside the Forward Fire Arc, and the Klingons, being cloaked, could add +4 Agility Dice, no harm was done.
