Galleys and Galleons: Templates Finished

I have not found time for a game, yet, but the quick template mock-up is done, an I am actually all set for playing.

I used two 1mm thick neodyne magnets to fasten the Wind Compass arrow, one guled to the compass, the other to the arrow, and it works a treat!

At some point, I shall make a set of templates using a pair of compasses(!) to mark a circular shape, before laminating and cutting out the templates.

Galleys and Galleons: Preparing the Game

Last week I purchased Galleys and Galleons form Ganesha Games, as I had seen some pics of games played with the Pirates of the Spanish Main ships, of which I have a shipload(!).

The game uses the well-known Song of Blades and Heroes engine with a few adjustments, but nothing to surprise players of any of the 'Songs' games.

I am preparing a Wind Compass and a Heading Template, printed from the pdf, and I am going to attach the arrow using a pair of 1mm rare earth magnets and some glue.

Like with Paleo Diet

Half of all author royalties generated from sales of these rules will be donated to the UNHCR, the United Nations refugee agency who protect and assist individuals and families displaced by war and persecution,

so I would urge all gamers to purchase a copy of the game, be it printed or digital, from Ganesha Games.

I may get a game in tomorrow - depending on how carried away I get with gardening, as this spring is acting like a hot August.

Trump and Putin...

...we better get ready.

OK, only one mask - for spray painting, working with resin, etc. But still...

Did some shopping today.

I got up early and drove with my wife to Odense, when she went to work, as I had a few things on my to-buy list (especially some honey for the next batch of mead).

After Odense, I drove down to Svendborg to do some additional shopping.

Of notion, hobby-wise, I got some paint for my Egyptian temple stairs, and I bought another yatzy-set with dice tray (to have 2 trays for gaming) - and I found a green doormat in the pound store (Tiger), that I am going to cut up to use as fields with un-ripe crops.

You cannot tell from the picture, but the bristles on the mat are approximately 10mm long.

DreadBall: The Referee!

So, finally the last piece missing (except, now I need to paint a second team to do demo-games).

I did a fairly simple paint job on her:

  1. Base Coat, Vallejo Polished Gold + Black
  2. Badab Black wash
  3. Vallejo Polished Gold heavy drybrush
  4. Vallejo Polished God + silver light drybrush.
  5. Black touch-up on eyes and hip joints
  6. Eyes light grey
  7. Cords in hip joints blue, green, and red.
  8. Touch up around the eyes with Vallejo Polished Gold, and the Vallejo Polished Gold/Silver mix.

No excuses for postponing adding the transfers, then - I shall have to order some MicroSet and MicroSol very soon.

Expenses, expenses...

Let's Have a Ball!

Nothing special, not even a good paint job, but after completely messing up my first attempt to paint the DreadBall, I went for a very simple approach.

I may play around with some green wash before varnishing, but I am not sure I dare do so.

Working on a DreadBall.

I got ready to prime the magnetized DreadBall-ball earlier this afternoon, using my vented spray paint box.

Looks like overkill to me...

After priming the ball, I left it almost an hour to get dry to the touch, and I was VERY frustrated to learn that:

1) The spray propellant (or the low temperature, or both) had dissolved/broken the adhesiveness of the LocTite Powerglue (I've never had this happening before), AND

2) that the primer had not yet completely dried and rubbed off on my index finger, leaving a finger print in the surface.

Current state.
You cannot see it in the pic, as it is in the upper right kvadrant, but I shall have to file or sand it down a bit to avoid the metal surface of the ball to look odd when finished.

Before
the disastrous priming efforts.
I'll glue the blasted thing before leaving for work later, but this kind of set-backs are not doing anything good for my motivation....
