2019-06-29: Åcon 2019, Saturday

DrTheViking staged a Rogue Trader four-way scenario - I played the Orks and almost completed my objective (I had to 'salvage' the red Rhino), although my leader went down on Turn 3.

The Wasteland Muties blew up the entire board by activating a nuclear device from the Age of Strife - winning them the game, but... well...

Some of the monsters making an appearance in Rogue Trader.

The latest incarnation of Adeptus Titanicus saw a couple of demo runs. All those buildings are 3D-printed, by the way!

Wild boars from Stronghold Terrain - I think I need some of those for Paleo Diet...

The compulsory selfie stick fumble photo.

DrThe Viking and Jonas had brought some Oldhammer minis and played a Warhammer 3rd Ed. (I think) game, Undead versus Dwarves.

The Fear-rule in Warhammer seems so much more effective than the Scary-rule in God of Battles...

In the end, the Dwarves were being well overrun - it may have helped that Jonas did not read the rules in advance - Oldhammer rules are fairly complicated, and you need to know your army's meta stuff to perform well.

Sunday, the activity was limited to breakfast and pulling down the party tent, so no pics.

This was a soft reboot of Åcon after a pause last year, and I think that more games will be featured next and following years.

I brought home two boxes of somewhat battered expanded foam modern/futuristic buildings taking up too much space in our host's living room - I am going to repair the broken pieces and use it for some gaming in the attic until I bring it to Åcon and/or other events with the same bunch of guys.

2019-06-28: Åcon 2019, Friday

Last weekend, I attended the private event Åcon in Esbjerg (it was on pause last year) - a small 'invites only' gathering of gamers.

Rasmus Wichmann, probably the driving force behind Team Dread Streets, publishers of Dread Streets, the cinematic swashbuckling game, was present for a couple of hours, and I sat in on a simplified demo of said game.

It was very hot, and it probably influenced our ability to focus, but we managed to play it to an abrupt end, when Rasmus was called home. If I recall correctly, I was deemed winner (or second) because of some unused counters.

I then demoed One Page Rules Age of Fantasy Skirmish. I really need to make some mats large enough for this and other games!

At the end of Turn 4, The Goblins carried the day, holding 2 objectives against 1.

I think this late evening pic looks a lot like this one from 2016: https://argonor-wargames.blogspot.com/2016/07/acon-1-day-in-esbjerg.html

Attic Attack 2018 - Cancelled

The rehab of Anna's knees (she had surgery on both) has taken too much of my time the last six months, and I do not feel up to preparing the attic for a gathering this summer, as it would mean a lot of work just after returning from our summer vacation.

Hopefully, next year will be less stressful, and I can get the attic (and the garage) set up for a weekend of fun and games...

As always, it is still possible to arrange games in the attic with me whenever I am home.

New Window for the Garage Attic

Aboujt a week ago, last Sunday, Kevin and his brother gave me a hand with the new window for the garage attic.

I purchased the window two years ago, but the family landspeeder then needed some serious repairs, and I could not find the money for hiring a carpenter to do the job (and I dared not make an attempt on my own).

But when Kevin and I played Black Powder a month or so ago, and it was very hot, I mentioned that I already had a window to replace the old, not very functional, one, and as it turned out, he and his brother had just changed the windows in Kevin's home.

About 1½ hour well spent, and Argonor's Attic can now get vented whenever needed!

This will be a big help the next time I arrange Attic Attack, as the attic has a tendency to get very hot when the sun is shining outside, and it has been hard to breathe up there at more than one occasion.

Attic Attack 2017 - Cancelled

For various reasons, I cannot see myself preparing and hosting an event in the garage attic this year.

This DOES NOT mean that it will not be possible for peeps living within a reasonable distance from me (or, for some reason or the other, visiting Funen) to drop by for a game - it just means that I am not going to set a date for a gathering this year.

As always, I have plenty of tables and minis ready up there, so, don't hesitate to contact me for a gaming appointment!

I expect Attic Attack to return in 2018, so stay tuned for further announcements!

Horisont VIII, 2016: Blood Eagle in Middle-Earth, Part 2

The Dwarf leader finally reached the village, and persuaded the women and children to leave the compromised area and try to reach safety in Edoras.

The Dunlendings kept hacking and slashing their way through the defenders.

And, finally, the Uruk-Hai started pouring onto the bloody field from several directions.

The Rohirrim were no match for the Dunlendings.

The Uruks came close to the fleeing civilians.

But but the Dwarves and the defenders moved quickly to intercept.

As the defense began to crumble, the Dunlendings started taking prisoners (white markers).

The civilians slipped through, before the Uruks could block the way.

The last Uruk was effectively blocked by the Dwarves.

At this point, one player had to leave, and as the most of the civilians would leavd on their next turn, we ruled that the defenders had carried the day, and ended the game.

Horisont VIII, 2016: Blood Eagle in Middle-Earth, Part 1

As mentioned, I brought my Blood Eagle Middle-Earth scenario for the Horisont convention last weekend.

Here is the first part of an AAR from a game played.

I had added about 140 points to the Rohirrim force defending the village, changed the chance for the raiders to enter the table, and I put a lot more terrain around the village to slow down the attackers' advance. As it turned out, the Uruk-Hai player was very unlucky with his rolls to get his Orcs onto the table, and I think I have to change the probability for an attacker entering a bit back.

Enough of that! Here is the table after the defenders and the relief force deployed, and the first Turn was well underway.

A single Uruk entered early on, but faced uneven odds.

At the far end, the Dunlendings had started arriving, axe and bow ready to carve a bloody trail through the defenders.

A staunch warrior of Rohan faced the lone Orc, all the while the Dunlendings advanced towards the village and were met by swords and arrows.

The sdefenders opted to meet the invaders early on.

The fastest Dwarves arrived at the outskirts of the village, just to see the Uruk cut down.

At this time, a regular skirmish had broken out in and around the woods to the west of the village.

A skirmish that did not go well for the Rohirrim... well, not for long, at least...

Meanwhile, another Uruk had been summoned by the sound of battle.

Still, the action heated around the woods.

Reinforcements arrived from the village.

But the Dunlendings pushed through the woods and threatened to enter the village itself.

And the defenders seemed hard-pressed.

The dice refused to roll 4+ for the Uruk-Hai.

I shall continue this tomorrow - right now I have a film to watch, and then it is off to bed for today!
