Return of the Lichemaster

I finally managed to pull myself together after a long period with absolutely NO energy and initiative, due to a mystical ailment making my stomach hurt after each meal, and preventing me from getting more than 3-4 hours of sleep per night.

I have been in a programme at 'Center for Functional Diseases' in Vejle, and am now in medical treatment, which has helped me overcome the problems associated with eating (and that alone has helped my mood a LOT, as I am very fond of good, well cooked food), and a physiotherapist helped ne get off the couch and become more active - which has also given me more energy.

Summa Summarum, I think I am almost back in the saddle, I have played a couple of games and I have been buying quite a few things - and promise to start posting pics here!

The last week I have been unpacking and sorting two small crates and two large boxes worth of assorted purchases. A lot of it is now taking up all the space I currently have available for it in the living room, and I am in sore need of some boxes to store the goodies in!

As you can see, I have been purchasing both terrain and minis ...

... and as you can also see, Lyra, the Terror of the Lichemaster, would very much like to get up there and push everything over the edge ...

That guy is HUGE!

Quite a few biggies, actually,

The yellow school bus! I've been wanting to get one for my Scoobycalypse Walking Dead project (which has been on hold for quite a while). Fred and Daphne are both sitting on one of my Hammers-invented cork-handle faquir-beds, awaiting further attention.

I've got painted minis for several Deadzone factions (at least Enforcers, Asterians, Forge Fathers, Rebels, Plague, maybe Marauders), and unpainted minis for GCPS Troopers and Veer-Myn.

I own a copy of that game, so I am very happy about having acquired those!

I also got a lot of painted and nearly painted Necrons, along with a bunch of Adeptus Mechanicus Scitarii Vanguard/Rangers (hmmm) and as I am just creating Space Marine and Eldar profiles for 'Warlords of the 41st Millennium' (W41M) - my own adaption of Warlords of Erehwon/Bolt Action rules for the Grimdark Universe, I couldn't get a better motivation for pressing on with that project!

I promise to get better pics of the various groups and Items when I get started putting them away in some nice sturdy boxes (I need to procure some shoe boxes or the likes, until I can get enough priter paper boxes).

For now: May Your Dice Favour You!

2018-12-22: Mantic's The Walking Dead, Prelude to Woodbury, Scenario 2, Part 6

As mentioned in my previous post, from now on I followed the movement rules as intended, so this Turn, Brian chose to run!

This, of course, drew the attention of the bimbo Walker, who caught up with him.

Getting face to missing face with the blonde bombshell obviously became too much for Mr. Blake...

This Turn's Event was 'Frayed Nerves', which at Medium Threat says that 'one model with Low or Medium Nerve creates Mayhem (he probably cried out, or fired his gun in vain).

Mayhem makes all Eligible Walkers within 10" move towards the source, and now things were really heating up.

The Threat Level again was increased as a consequence of the Melee. It seemed about time to get things wrapped up if Brian was not to be completely overwhelmed!

As Brian was fighting two Walkers this time, they rolled THREE Red Dice. The rules regarding weapons in hand and swapping between 'pack' and 'hands' are not introduced until the third scenario so I hope the way I calculated Brian's dice  was correct (I do not remember which weapons I used).

Correct or not, Brian lost the fight, was pushed back, and lost another point of Health.

No prone Walkers at the end of the Turn, so Brian cound now concentrate on getting out of that tight spot, and he ran towards the corner of the area.

This drew the hoodie into contact with him, but this was clearly preferable to being swamped in the center!

I think I forgot to add the +1 Threat before applying the Event effects, as it seems I applied the effects for Medium Threat.

Well, three Walkers were moved...

...and another three entered the game.

The Melee increased the Threat Level, and Brian managed to wind land a Head Shot, thus eliminating the hoodie.

No Walkers were prone, so we skip to the next Turn.

Eager to get the job done, Brian ran to the last Supply Counter, which allowed the closest Walker to engage him.

Luckily, no unengaged Walkers were close enough to lurch at our Survivor, and this Turn's Event allowed me to move a couple of shamblers away from the action.

Suddenly, the situation looked manageable, Brian just had to defeat the whitecollar, search the Supply Counter, and get the Hell out of there...

The Threat Level was getting dangerouly high (remember, at least at one point I forgot to move the marker), so now Brian would have to get his act together to get out in time!

Luckily, he managed to defeat the whitecollar, thus freeing up the Supply Counter, and Victory was now within grasp!

The Walker did not get back up at the end of the Turn, and Brian could search the Supply Counter as his first Action.

If this had not been the last Supply Counter, Brian surely soon would have dressed his wounds with the found Bandages, but as it were, he simply ran away to (relative) safety with all five Supply Counters.

This last picture shows the lay of the land at the end of the game.

Even with the mistakes I made along the way, it was an entertaining game! I think am ready for the third scenario, but I do not think that I am going to record it as meticulously as the first two, for two reasons:

  1. I want to immerse myself more in the game (without pausing to take photos all the time)
  2. I do not want to spend quite as much time writing up the AAR
I think I want to dig out some die-casts to use instead of the flat counters, and I may also be able to find some wooden fences  to use as barricades, and I expect to be able to find time to play somewhen during next week!

2018-12-20: Mantic's The Walking Dead, Prelude to Woodbury, Scenario 2, Part 5

Well, I was a tad over-confident when writing the previous post.

January has proved quite troublesome for me. First I had a period of feeling not-so-well, with a 'almost cold' that did not quite break out, but caused weariness and bad sleep, and absolutely no motivation for anything. Then, I learned that my workplace is to shut down by the end of April, which is quite a stress factor, and this added further to demotivate me.

I have now decided, though, that I have to pull myself up by the hair, and this week I have begun walking my 7-8 km route with the dog. Getting some exercise always invigorates me, and after a few days I already feel motivated to resume work on this blog and my vacation pictures, so maybe I shall get some stuff painted next week (this weekend I have to work, so my leisure time will be spent with the family).

Okay, back to the action!

Brian found a Hunting Knife - the Prelude to Woodbury rules do not list explanations for the Keywords, so until I get the full rules I can only guess, but I suspect 'Dual Wield' means that the effect stacks - I have no way to tell if the weapon held in the other hand has to have Dual Wield as well, though, and this is a bit frustrating. I may have to bite the bullet and get the Core Set before Days Gone Bye, although I really want the option for building my own characters...

After grabbing the knife, he sneaked past the downed bimbo Walker away from the car and the Walkers clawing at it.

The movement took him beyond the kill Zone of the standing Walkers - but the universe was not content with letting him get away.

The Event Card raised the Threat Level (already at Medium Threat) by one, and I had to roll two Blue Dice to determine, how many Eligible Walkers would move towards Brian - in this case three!
Luckily, the two nearest Walkers had to move around the car, and they failed to reach him.

I also had to roll a Blue Die to see how many Walkers would arrive at the scene, and three more of the mindless dead came shambling onto the board.

The bimbo stayed down for another round. Brian must have hit her hard...

Brian the ran to get himself away from the approaching Walkers...

...making Noise, so that the nearest Eligible Walker is moved towards him (but failing to reach him).

The error of my ways had not yet been pointed out to me, so Brian now made another illegal move, sneaking away from the walker.

This resulted in him being outside the Kill Zone in the Event Phase.

One good thing is resulting from this: I shall never again forget the Action rules, now that I have been forced to remember my error again and again writing this AAR 😈

This Turn's Event Card tried to get the bimbo to stand up, but she still refused to move.

As the Threat Level was Medium, I also had to roll for eligible Walkers to move towards nearest Survivor.

Illegal sneaking or not, Brian would have to fight the fat butcher!

As always, when there is a Melee, the Threat Level was raised by one.

Things were about to get hairy for Brian!

Brian used his Two-by-Four, trying to smash in the Butcher's head, but even with his Reroll, he still lost the fight, and was pushed back 1".

The last thing to do to round up the Turn was to check for prone Walkers - and the bimbo finally decided to end her beauty sleep (WAY too early, if you ask me)!

From this point on, I should have the Action/Movement rules right.

This will be all for now, though, as I very soon have to pick up Anna from school. Her knees surgeries have not turned out quite as hoped/expected, so she is not happy taking the bus, and I have - a bit reluctantly, due to the time and money it takes - agreed to drive her,, until she can get another operation in both knees, hopefully somewhen this year.
