November Output

November was fairly productive, even a few more models finished than the previous month.

4 Skeleton Archers painted, one Leader rebased.

3 Skeleton Catapult Crewmen painted-

5 Revenants/Skeleton Guards painted.

2 Small Tents painted.

1 Mines of Moria Aragorn painted

4 Mines of Moria columns/pillars painted-

1 Warhammer Quest Barbarian painted.

2 Gravestones painted.

1 Mines of Moria Peregrin Took painted.

2 Middle-Earth Rangers painted.

2 more Gravestones painted.

Another 2 Gravestones painted.

Yet another 2 Gravestones painted

1 old Metal Magic Rogue rebased and repainted/paint repaired-

Yet another 2 Gravestones painted.

1 Mines of Moria Meriadoc Brandybuck painted.

1 Ranger of Ithilien rebased and repainted/paint repaired.

If I have counted correctly, I painted 35 models and rebased and repainted/paint repaired 2 old models in November.

That's OK, I think. December will see a lower count, as I have a lot of iconic pop culture characters and other nice stuff lined up in the pain(t) queue, and they will need more attention than some of the rank.and-file I did in November.

The Last Gravestones - For a While

Two Renedra Plastic. one Citadel Plastic from an Undead sprue (I have a shedload of those).

These were the last gravestones that I had prepped and primed, and December means focusing on some other stuff, so don't expect to see more of this kind until January.

More Stone Slabs

Soon, there will be a short break from these, as I have only three more prepped, based, and primed.

I found a couple of rogue 'leaves' when tidying up my pain(t) station, so I glued them on.

I hope to finish Merry Brandybuck tomorrow (one of those diminutive plastic sculpts from The Mines of Moria) - he has taken me far too long!

More Headstones

I thought it was about time that I show some hobby stuff, so I knocked out these two today.

I have several minis and a terrain piece coming up, but they are not quite there, just yet.

Renedra Small Tents

Today's post is a bit bland, but I quickpainted these over several sessions, and they are now ready to be used in whatever context they might be needed.

I would like to get more Renedra stuff, but I need to find an EU vendor who carries it, as there is too much hassle in ordering from outside the Inner Market.

I am struggling with a Mines of Moria plastic Aragorn at the moment - very tiny compared to other 28mm stuff, so I make very slow progress, but I hope to finish him tomorrow.

October Output

Taken into account that I came back to the hobby some days into October, I think I have been relatively productive.

Four games played, one of them a solo introduction game, which took me several days to work through, as I had to refer to the rulebook a lot until I had the basics down.

During the week up to the Hell'O'Weekend I prepped, based, and painted up almost an entire sprue's worth of Renedra headstones (17 in all), and a resin pile of skulls I got from a small independent manufacturer some years ago (I sincerely don't remember whom).

These three guys got some TLC and joined my Army of Darkness, hurling stuff at their mortal antagonists.

The archers were a direct consequence of the games I've played, as I felt the need for packing some ranged punch against the mortal instruments of Law and Order.

Finally, this venomous arachnid finally got ready for the table. I started rebasing it onto a large washer a LONG time ago, but in the process of removing from its old plastic base, I broke one of its hind legs, and I kind of dreaded the task of getting it fixed back in its proper place. As it turned out, it was a bit fiddly, but I am pretty chuffed with the final result. It seems that my Undead Host will comprise a Monster Unit next game 😃

All in all 31 minis painted, and one big creature rebased (and quite a few prepping/painting and/or rebasing WIPs on the side). Not too shabby, innit?

The Halloween Display

Most of last week and all of the weekend, our living room, hallway, and conservatory (used as main entrance) has been decorated for Halloween (our daughters both had several parties to attend, and some of the friends of the oldest one were coming here to prepare).

When entering the conservatory, this was the sight that met the eye:

Our living room (that dark thing in the corner of the first pic is a clàrsach).

On the sideboard, I had placed a lot of my horror-related painted minis:

A lot of those headstones were painted tyhe last week, and I shall take a separate photo with those for my 'October Output Post' one of the next days.

Dark Ages Tents WIP

I am printing some Oseberg tents to use as Camp models for Ulolkish's Dwarves in tomorrow's God of Battles game.

Of course, they will also be used for camp scenery in other games, like SAGA, especially when my Vikings are fighting.

The tents are roughly the same size as the Saxon tents I purchased from Renedra a couple of years ago - and just remembered, so I have dug them out and expect to assemble them next week (they should be perfect for my Rohan warband, although the movie show a somewhat different style of tents in the camp at Dunharrow.

Graveyard Waltz

- When all is said and done, we were just too young, to be doing that graveyard waltz!

As part of my work to clear some space on the prepping station, I started work on the bases of these headstones. I have an obscene number of those buggers waiting to be based and painted, and I really should take a couple of weeks out of my hobby schedule to get a fair number ready for the table.

Blood Eagle: Renedra Wattle Fences

Also with my Renedra order: Waddle fences. I think I have just about everything needed for making a small homestead to act as target for my raiders.

The two buildings will constitute the core of the farm, and I can then make a pig pen, a dung heap, and some fields (and base some more fences), and I shall be good to go.

Blood Eagle: Renedra 'Saxon' Tents

Couple of days ago, these 'Saxon' tents arrived with my order from Renedra. They will see service in most of the Dark Ages armies I shall ever get painted (and probably get company of another sprue or two.).

Pity, really, that no nice models of the Oseberg tent is available for 28mm Vikings. I have seen an overpriced laser-cut one with fabric tent, but a sprue like this, with a small assortment, would find its way to many tables, I believe.

Blood Eagle: Warband Status

So, with five minis assembled, I have spent a total of 174 points.

I am aiming for 200 points for my starting warband, which means that I have 26 points left to spend on a warrior with a bow. I am too tired to jiggle stats and points right now, but it should be easily doable.

I just ordered the Conquest Games plastic Medieval Archers from Renedra (with som Saxon Tents, and two frames of waddle fencing).

The plans for the weekend are:

  1. Remove moldlines from Ulf
  2. Sculpt leather straps/loops holding some axes
  3. Add filler to the bases
  4. Maybe take a group shot
I am currently in my 5-day work week (night watch), and I probably shall not make more much progress this week (but that only means, the archer may have time to catch up with the rest of the crew). It will be good to take a few days off cutting and gluing plastic, though.

Camp and Baggage for my GoB Project (and other purposes as well...)

Finished these camp elements today:

The tents were given Army Painter Skeleton Bone spray, then Devlan Mud Wash, followed by AP Skeleton Bone drybrush (yes, they DO make corresponding paints in dripper bottles for all their spray primers).

The fireplace was primed black, charred wood and stones drybrushed with a dark grey, stones then lightly drybrushed with a lighter grey, finally just barely toched with an almost white.

The ground was painted Warzone Trench Brown, then given 2 consecutive dryrushes with TB + white, before a quick wash with Devlan Mudwas applied.

I also glued some luggage to the three prepped large steel washers, and gave all of them a black undercoat.

I'm going back to work tomorrow, evening shift, so I MAY get a bit done in the morning, but we'll see about that...

Renedra American Church, Part 2.

All but done assembling the little bugger.

Assembling the bell tower, I realized that it might have been better to NOT remove the tabs lifting the roof a tiny bit higher, as it got a bit difficult to fit the base of the tower on the roof.

Well, lesson learned.

I haven't glued the spire in place, yet, as I'm going to give the bell a rub-over with my brass brush before fixing it inside the tower.

Below is a picture with the spire in place, and I think that the finished result will be VERY good.

I may have made a few mistakes along the way - and I still wouldn't recommend the kit for unexperienced modelers, but I am pleased withthe way the model seems to turn out.

I'm looking forward to slabbing some paint on the church after Horisont, as I won't have time for it until then.

Tents!

When I got the American Church from Renedra, I also purchased a sprue of tents, and as Duregar's stunties need something to hide in, I've decided to get a couple of bell-shaped tents ready for Horisont (next weekend).

I simply removed them from the spues, cleaned them up, and sprayed them with Army Painter Skeleton Bone. This evening, I'll give them a Devlan Mud wash, and then we'll see if they need a drybrush, or if they'll do as such!

Hopefully, they'll be ready for Tuesday, when we should get together for a test game of the scenario.

Some Luggage (Scatter Terrain)

I am trying to get some 'baggage' ready for next weekend, where Duregar/ulolkish and I are going to run an intro-game of Good of Battles at Horisont VI.

I got some Pulp Luggage from Slug Industries back in the spring, because I wanted something to put in camps/on trucks for Pulp Alley and other Pulp games, but, as so many timnes before, I got side-tracked by other projects.

I am going to make some bases with various combinations of trunks (maybe I'll add hat boxes and other small stuff at a later time), and for this purpose I have prepped some large steel washers with a piece of adhesive tape and some filler.

I doubt that I'll be able to finish all three bases, but if I manage to do two, it will have to do. I can go back later and add more to the collection.

Below are some pieces I don't recall the manufacturer off. It may be Fenris Games, I've had a load of nitbits from there stocked up for quite a few years, now.

They are fairly generic, that's why I keep them together on one base - it should then be useable for a wide array of periods/settings.

I am waiting for the fgiller to dry up, si I can glue the bits onto the bases, and get them primed, ready for painting!
