Pulp Figures - Rebasing Done!

A quick cleanup of the filler, and they can get a quick spray with black primer to caver the new bases.

I feel a Sally 4th order coming up - especially as I also want the new MDF laser-cut tramp steamer, albeit a bit on the expensive side (I have been waiting a long time for somebody to bring out such a kit).

I shall then have to make a Hinterland order, to get the pulp characters (and maybe a pack or two of the Hussars), but that will have to wait a while, yet.

Firstly, if my finances permit it, after our summer vacation I shall get a copy of Star Wars Legion, which I have been wanting to try for a while, so the pulp stuff must wait until Autumn.

Pulp Figures: Finishing the New Bases

A long time ago, I decided to re-base these two fez-wearing characters, and they recently surfaced from the mess on my prepping station.

I put filler on the bases and in the hole on the underside, and tomorrow I shall remove excess filler from the underside, and finish building up the base.

I think it may be about time I get that Pulp Alley Solo Play Deck...

SotHT: Mission Accomplished!

So, 8 years and almost 5 months (short of 3 days) after the first posting about this on the LAF, I have now finally finished this project according to the original plans (and then some).

This was originally intended to be used with the .45 Adventure rules, and the factions have been fleshed out according to that.

In the meantime, I have decided to instead use the Pulp Alley rules, and I shall have to make some changes to build the factions as 'Leagues' - but that is a project for later this year.

Below you will find pictures of a set-up of both the archaelogical site and the sub-terranean Hidden Temple with all the minis I currently plan to use for the scenario.

SotHT: Rebasing the Last Mini!

All I need to do to accomplish what I pledged to do, is getting the Grave Robber's base finished, and I can lay out the entire project for a photo.

I am not going to take the 'completed' picture until after Anna's birthday party, as I don't want to de forced to put it aside immediately after the photo session, Thus, it will have to be postponed to June 20th, as the party is the 19th.

But, in the meantime I shall get this little bugger ready for the table - as you can see, removing the old base has resulted in some of the paint chipping off the feet, so I shall probably have to experiment a bit to find the colours I used (unless I have actually recorded them somewhere in these pages).

I did not use artificial light for the photo, that, combined with 'indoor' setting ogf the camrea is the reason for the pale colours - I shall try taking this kind of pics with another setting.

Well, all for now - as I am writing this, the sand is drying on the base, and should be ready for painting tomorrow!

SotHT: Rebasing the Mad Grave Robber

I realized that I had yet another mini for the project that needed something done to its base, and, yes, I rebased another slotta mini onto a washer (I am making a habit of it, it seems...)

I have yet  to finish painting the stairs, and then flesh out the leagues, and figure out whether I need to paint additional models. At least the 'good guys' will need a few extra members, but I have plenty of models to use to that end.

Next week should see another burst of concentrated work done on this project (Monday-Wednesday), and I hope to be able to draw up the final plans for it, as almost half the time designated to this Painting Club has expired.

SotHT: More Steps!

Got a couple of layers done before going to the post office this morning.

I expect to finish the build today (i.e. carving all the layers, and glue them in place).

Tuesday, 24 February 2015

SotHT: More Steps!

Two thirds of the steps, and maybe three to four
fifths of the total carving done (the layers get shorter).

I have reached the second step with space for minis, and I'll rest my X-Acto until tomorrow. and watch som Game of Thrones and Rome for therest of the evening.

Oh, and nothing has been glued into place, yet, in case anyone wonders...

SotHT: Stepping up to the Challenge!

Having the day off, I am getting somewhere with my temple stairs.

I started by making a template marking up the metal base I am going to use - for two reasons: 1) it will add weight to the stairs, making them less prone to topple over, and 2) I can store the stairs securely in one of my boxes with a magnetic sheet in the bottom.

After marking up the footprint of the stairs, I cut out the base with a hacksaw.

I have cut and carved the first five layers of 5mm foamboard - the fifth layer will have the first step wide enough for a mini's base (if I have calculated correctly, there should be three such ledges in total), thus I have carved the stone slabs about 3cm into it.

I expect to do at least the next five layers this afternoon, but now it is time for some excercises, a 5km run!

SotHT: Work has Begun!

I slept until 4 p.m. today, but I managed to ready the dining table and start measuring and making a template for the metal base I am going to make for the stairs.

I may achieve some progress this evening, before going to work, but there is not going to be any quantum leaps until tomorrow (I end my 5-night period this night, so have the next couple of days off).

The stairs are being made of layered 5mm foamboard, with a thin metal base. I plan to carve the foamboard to look like large stone slabs, Membership of LAF oblige, so I have to up my game a bit to earn a place among all those other magnificent projects!

SotHT: Rebasing the Diggers, Finally Done!

So, after 2 weeks of hardly any progress, I sat down at the painting desk with a firm resolve to get this batch put aside.

I'm not quite sure if the bases are a wee tad too yellow (highlight is Coat d'Arms Buff), I'll have to see them on one of my desert tables before deciding whether I should add white to the buff and do a final light drybrush highlight.

Next up for the Secrets of the Hidden Temple project is rebasing of the German 'archaeologists': another matter of removing slottas from integral bases, and glue the minis onto steel washers.

The rebased diggers.

The Germans are going to get the same type of 'all-round' bases as the Turks, as they are likely to appear anywhere between Berlin, Nigeria, Borneo, and the Amazonas.

Before surgery.

SotHT: Rebasing the Diggers, WIP 3.

Sand added to the bases. Next up some basecoat - still wondering how the transisition between new and old sand is going to look...

I spent most of the day working in the shed and in the garden (in between all the very wet show, suddenly the sun shone through and made the day bright, so I thought I should better take advantage of it to get something done), so this is all the hobby progress I made today.

Tomorrow I shall try real hard to get the last DreadBall player finished, so I can move the paint queue along...

SotHT: Rebasing the Diggers, WIP 2.

Doing some progress.

I wonder if I'll manage to get the new layer of sand to fluctuate with the remainder of the old...

SotHT: Rebasing the Turks, FINISHED!

Got these done today,

You will have noticed that I did not give the Turkish faction desert bases; they are not going to serve this project only, but will see use in a regular Pulp Alley league, and maybe also games of Strange Aeons/Von unaussprechlichen Kulten, so they got 'generic' bases.

The diggers will get new desert bases instead of their current slottas. The main protagonists ar both 'slotta-minis' so the only treatment they'll get is perhaps a small enhancement of their bases.

Tomorrow, I shall start re-basing the diggers for the archaeological expedition.

SotHT: Rebasing the Turks, WIP 3.

Texture done. Slow progress at the moment, am busy applying for job, cutting up some firewood, and preparing about 40 wine bottles for the next batch of mead to be bottled. Tomorrow I'll have to secure the premises against TWO gales/storms that have been announced for the weekend (I'll have to fix some ground anchors for the kids' trampoline, block the wheels of the flatbed trailer, and put everything not bolted to the ground or the house inside the garage).

I may start painting the bases this evening. Or not. It's been a busy and tiresome day...

SotHT: Rebasing the Turks, WIP 2.

Next stage done - some of the old gravel removed, and filler added.

Next up some texture, paint, and flock/tufts/foliage/whatever...

SotHT: It's ALIIIVE...!!

There is a new challenge at the LAF at the moment: Revive a long abandoned project and - hopefully
- finish it within a duration of 6 months.

I chose to re-animate a Pulp project I originally intended for .45 Adventure, but now consider applying the Pulp Alley rules to:

The Secrets of the Hidden Temple

The scenario was almost ready to go, when some real life turmoil redirected my attention away from the hobby for a while: I really only needed to  construct the stairs leading down to the dungeon-like sub-terranean temple, so this task is an obvious goal for the challenge.

Before
Back then, I painted 5 or 6 factions to take part in the scenario, and I based everything on round slottas, meaning that I have a lot of minis with integral bases based that way; thus, another goal is to re-base all the minis with integtal bases onto steel washers - and add iron to the rest.

First step will be to rebase the Turkish faction, and here I present Hasan Köse, international man of mystery, spy, dealer in carpets, exquisite antiquities, weapons, opium, informations, and murder, etc., etc., and his  not-too-bright bodyguards.

Rebasing has begun, and I shall track further progress in these pages.
