Oldhammer Minis: Second-Hand Bretonnian Archers

My latest purchase, some second-hand metal Citadel Bretonnian archers, including Command. I won them in an auction on a Facebook group (and probably paid about €10 too much, but I really wanted them), and they are going directly into the ultrasound cleaner.

I have had eight of the old Perry Bretonnian archers for several decades, and now I took the chance to enable them being part of a full unit in whatever game I fancy using them for!

GoB: Argonor's Army of Darkness

As promised, here is a presentation of my entire God of Battles Lords of Undeath army. I finished the bases on the four command models earlier today (and have already begun painting some Vikings), which brings my infantry up to a solid 36 points.

Note: There is two models too many in two of the Ghoul units in these pictures (and one unit too few) - I had to pick up Anna from school in the midst of setting up, and forgot to adjust before taking the photos.

Of course, I shall rarely field my entire collection of Main Force units (4 units of Ghouls really is a bit too much rabble), but I actually do have another not quite assembled Skeleton Chariot to quickly bring my Command and Support up to strength with the Main Force list, should the need arise.

GoB: The Final Stages in Progress

I got up early this morning, and I am way ahead of the schedule I made yesterday evening.

The Agrax Earthshade is dryingright now, and later I shall give the cobra-shaped horn a dark green wash, to make it look very old (at least that is the plan...).

In a few minutes, I am going to finish the filler job on the Scooby gang, and then I have a few repairs and rebasings I can spend some time on, while the green wash dries.

I shall try to finish the bases this evening - I would love to wrap this up today (I still have to du the actual flags for the standards, but those will have to wait, until I have a gaming appointment in place).

When these are finished, I shall make a full line-up of all the stuff I have for my Lords of Undeath army, with single shots of each unit, and even if I should not get these quite finished today, I should still be able to do the line-up tomorrow, asthere is so precious little work left.

GoB: Command Models WIP

Got these almost ready for painting - I shall glue sand to their bases later today. If I get as much work in tomorrow as I did today, I may be able to wrap up this project Wednesday morning!

GoB: Command Models Progress

I have been feeling a bit shitty the last couple of days, so I have spent most time on the couch, watching TV or movies (and the Handball World Championships, from which our national team exited today, thus marking the worst result for Danish males' handball since 2005 😢😢😢)

Well, this evening, after having supper and walking the dog, I sat down and put some more parts on the three standard bearers and the lone musician for the Skeleton Hordes.

My camera really does not like these models (or the background, maybe), but you can probably see that the models are fully built by now.

I am probably going to add a few bits and bobs to this and that figure, to make them a bit more interesting, but as they are for lowly rabble units, I am not going to town on these.

GoB: Some Base Tasks Done

As mentioned in the previous post, I have not been feeling quite well today. Thus, I did not finish the bases on the rank-and-file for my fourth Skeleton Horde, but i did get the bases touched up with the basecoat colour, so they are now ready for the highlight drybrush.

I also finished building up the bases on the four command models, and I can get on with assembling them tomorrow (I expect, if I do not come down with something nasty over night).

GoB: Plastic Standards and Musician... Tiny Bit of Progress

I put some filler on - I thought I should better build up the bases, before gluing the arms with the lances on. Drying now, shall probably finish the filler job this evening.

GoB: Change of Plans

Last night, while skyping with a gaming buddy, I realized that I think the metal command models are a bit too much hassle for lowly Skeleton Horde units, and I decided to instead build some plastic models for the units needing some.

Today, I then dug out my skeleton bitz box, and some sprues, and set about prepping three standard bearers and one musician (I found a skeleton arm with a cobra-shaped horn).

"That is too few musicians", I gather you are thinking now, and yes - not every unit will have a musician model, but in formed units it doesn't really matter, because as long as there is one model left besides the Leader and the Standard Bearer, that model of course is the musician (instrument, or not).

Formed shooters of course always take the Marksman, and if they should not have a standard (which would, in my opinion, be a strange choice, as the Musician gives a bonus when moving into contact with the enemy, something shooters should only do in the direst of circumstances), then again the Musician will be present, as long as the unit has three or more models left (and only units that fight to the last model need to be concerned regarding this, anyways).

Should I find parts to make Musicians for the units without one, I shall of course built and paint them, as it is nice to have full command sections, but really not need to have.

GoB: Old Dead Lead

Went through another old pile of the job lot I bought about 20 years ago (and of which I have built most of my God of Battles Lords of Undeath army), and found this alternative standard bearer.

I think I am going to paint him full monty, as, although the sculpt is a bit static, I really like the 'Dragon Order'-style armour, and I already have a pretty clear idea about how to paint it.

I don't know if he is going to end up as the standard bearer of a Skeleton Warriors unit or my first Guardians of Midnight unit (which will consist of very old Citadel Wights/Wraiths with a very simple, almost monochrome paintjob), but as I am probably going to keep piling Undead Chariots on my Command and Support section, until I have 60 points, and only then consider using the Guardians as a regular feature (their cost, 14 points, is a bit unwieldy, just like the cost of the Necromancer).

GoB: Command Models for Skeleton Horde 4

Just finished cleaning these up and glueing the hornblower to a washer (I glued the standard bearer to his washer a couple of days ago, before cleaning him up - a bit of a blunder, really, but it worked out OK).

Later today I shall get some filler on the bases, so that these minis are soon ready to be primed with the rest of my fourth Skeleton Horde.

Actually, some or all of those old command models are probably going to be re-purposed for units of Skeleton Warriors and/or Guardians of Midnight at a later point, at which I will build some plastic skeleton standard bearers (and see if I can find  or build some plainer skeleton musicians for the hordes).

GoB: NIB Skeleton Command - Before and After

Broke out another old Citadel blister today, putting the contents to thier intended use.

Felt just as good as the other one.

I need the standard bearer and the hornblower for my fourth Skeleton Horde, and the Wight/Leader will be painted at a later point, and used as a Blacksoul, possibly member of a Guardians of Midnight unit. But you probably knew that I would write that.

GoB: March of the Ancient Bones

As promised, here is a post related to gaming!

Earlier today, I finished cleaning up the rank and file of my third Skeleton Horde, and I promptly got them undercoated. My homemade spray station with with the old extraction hood did sterling service, as always!

Here they are in all their chalky glory! The leader is absent as I filled his washer base hole with... filler, which had to dry, before I can file the excess away.

Next phase is glueing sand on the bases, then blocking in colour on all areas not going to be bone-coloured - I am not sure if I am going to start doing it tomorrow, or if am going to spend most available time working on the other unit, will depend on, what I feel like doing...

GoB: Skeleton Horde - Now with Music

Got the drummer cleaned up and glued to a washer - and some filler on the base of the standard bearer. I shall let the glue settle a bit on the drummer, and then put some filler on his base later this evening. 🙌

GoB: Basing and a Standard

This unit is now a couple of steps closer to completion. I have put the last filler on the bases, and in the holes of the washers, and I have cleaned up and glued to a washer the standard bearer. I am not a big fan of this stance, and, sadly, the other command group blister has the same model 😞

In a few minutes, I am going to put filler on the base of the standard bearer, and maybe start cleaning up the drummer.

I now just have to remove the excess filler from the rank-and-file models' bases (and maybe clean up a couple of them), then they are all ready for some white primer. I think I may reach the primer stage during this weekend, but I am helping Duregar/Ulolkish moving house tomorrow, so I am not certain, how much hobby time I shall be able to squeeze in before Sunday.

Fixing Another Standard

I have been putting this off, because I feared that it would be difficult to get a good result.

Today was the day that I broke out the old self-adhesive Citadel Undead banner I got with the army over 20 years ago, and attached it to the lance allocated to standard duty,

It took me about five minutes to get it aligned and shaped, no more than that!

I may have to touch up the edges with black, and give the whole thing a coat of matt varnish, but other than that, it is all done!

It is a strange fate we should suffer so much fear and doubt… over so small a thing. Such a little thing!

GoB: Repairing a Standard

This old standard was broken (back when I tilted a large box with miniature storage boxes in it form a chair in the attic), and had to be mended.

Luckily, my Poly Cement is never far away, and I got the banner pole fixed shortly after re-basing most of the new unit.

The banner is exactly as it were when I purchased all those classic GW skellies as a big job lot more than 20 odd years ago, and it will do nicely (allthough I cannot help thinking 'Blood Angels' whenever I gaze upon it).

The cloaked figure to the left is my incarnation on the battlefield, by the way - Argonor the Necromancer is also to be finished for the gaming appointment on the 22nd, where I shall have my first game against Kevin's Orcs (an I really look forward to playing against another army than Duregar's Dwarves, and find out how the Undead perform against less staunch opponents).

Tomorrow, I shall put filler on a lot of bases, and get on with painting the Necromancer. I shall probably also find, print, and laminate the Necromancer Miracle cards, so I can have a set ready for the game - and I may have to make a set of Orc Miracle cards as well, just in case Kevin brings am Orc priest...

Skeleton Warriors for GoB - WIP 11

At last, I pulled myself together and continued work on the paper banner for the living impaired.

I cut the lover edge of the banner in a curve, then cut the 'shreds', and glued the rest of the backsides with white glue.



As I write this, I have also 'painted' the banner with diluted white glue to harden it (and shaped it a bit), and tomorrow I'll start painting it, The Powers That Be willing.



As formerly written, I am going to paint it black, and apply and old waterslide transfer to it, using my Micro Set and Micro Sol solutions (yes, I haven't starting putting numbers on my DreadBall team, yet, I know), and get a little practise that way.



I just realized that I should have cut the top between the loops going round the pole in a curve, but I am not going to correct that, unless I am able to remove the banner when the glue has set...

Skeleton Warriors for GoB - WIP 10

Finally started working on the paper banner for the standard. Just glued the bottom part together and letting it dry - it will need to get trimmed a bit, but otherwise the size seems right.

I am going to paint it black, and then apply an old transfer from a sheet of mixed Citadel transfers I have had in my possesion for ages.

Am looking forward to close this case and try the unit on the table!
