Hasslefree: Meddling Teenagers

I have been wanting to get the meddling teenagers sets from Hasslefree for quite a while, and about a month ago, I finally took the plunge and ordered the two sets along with a few other bits and bobs I want for other projects.

The first set consists of the four unarmed  (if a Book-toting Velma can be considered unarmed, that is...) protagonists, and the centerpiece of the team, the Great Dane.

The second set consits of the same characters, buit now in a 'post-apocalyptic' mode, and armed in a manner befitting to survivors of a zombie outbreak, or the likes.

Among other freenbies, I got an alternative version of Daphne, carrying what I think is a humongous flame thrower, and that might come in handy at some point.

I expect to use the team when re-booting my zombiecalypse (Dead Walk Again) gaming somewhen during the coming winter/spring (along with getting some of the Versatiles urban ground tiles from Multiverse Gaming, and some buildings to go along with them.

I shall paint them in pairs, one unarmed version and one armed, like Fred below, so I can play both mystery scenarios and outright survival fests.

More Zombies.

Finished this second batch today. Bases are awful - the highlighting colour is too thinned down to use for a proper drybrush, so I may apply a Devlan Mud wash to get some definition back into the texture.

The blood looks a bit too much like wet red paint in this picture - not quite so much IRL.

The shamblers will - like everything else I do these days - serve multiple purposes; Pike & Shot AND Zombies. Dead walk Again, Ghouls for GoB28, zombies/ghouls/cannibals for WWWII, CROM!, Pulp Alley, Strange Aeons, and Von Unaussprechlichen Kulten, etc.

Zombies Galore!

Finished basing and 'splattering' these two, which were painted for me by @Duregar. As soon as I have quick-painted all 30 Mantic zeds I've assembled, It is time for a Dead walk Again game using both the modern and the fantasy shamblers.

I also finished these after some experimenting with the base colours. Note that the base are rather small for 28mm figs (18mm and 20mm steel washers), as it enables the zeds to come closer together for that 'horde' look.

They are the first batch finished for my Pike & Shot AND Zombies (PSZ) project, and as mentioned above, they'll also be used for Dead walk Again (DwA).

More Walking Dead

Finished the last 3 of this batch today.

And before anybody asks: Yes, I have given up painting eyes on WF plastic zeds. These have to finished in great numbers, so fiddly detail has no place; PJ needs to be fast, easy, and gory, and from now on I'll prime them white, to make the lighter colours cover better (I simply block out the colours and wash with Devlan Mud or the equivalent).

Pike & Shot and Zombies plus SuperSystem

It's still too darn hot to fiddle with small bits o'lead and plastic, but I have been digging out some of the rulesets I bought a couple of years ago - SuperSystem 3rd Ed. and - as the headline says - Pike & Shot and Zombies.

I am determined to get a game of SuperSystem organized, as I have already painted to factions of minis and generated their profiles (for 2nd Ed., so I have to work them over to check the points
values), and to get some Mantic Zeds for PSZ, which I intend to play as 'Warhammer Apocalypse Z' with the option of playing survivors of the various races from that setting (which should make it easier to recruit players).

I already have begun making racial adjustments to the survivor generation charts, and I now have to get me some Zeds... the upside is that it will at the same time put me back on tracks with the Dead Walk Again 'Zombiecalypse Now' project, as the Mantic shamblers are sufficiently generic for using in a modern setting, too.

My goal is to stage the first game before Oct. 1st, and maybe bring the game to Horisont in Esbjerg (if it occurs, and I don't have to work that weekend).

The painting method will be block out skin and shroud, wash with Devlan Mud or the likes, drybrush original colours, pick out visible intestines, eyes, teeth, nails/claws, and maybe add some blood splatter.

I hope to be able to finish 10 zombies in a single paint session this way, but I'm out of practise, so I'll just have to see about that. My gaming pal Ulrik has painting sessions at his appartment every other Saturday, and I may pack up the minis, brushes, and paints to go there a couple of times to get some Work done without the distractions of Family life. And maybe get some of the other guys there interested in a game or two....

Dead walk Again: Zombiecalypse Now!

I have gotten some guys from my club in Svendborg involved in a little multi-player co-operative all-vs-the-zombies project. Rules are the free set Dead walk Again from Planned Movement Productions, a small informal operation run by some Swedes. I shall make a links page, soon...

First thing is to get some more shamblers painted (we roughly need at least 25 zeds per survivor - with about 10 per survivor starting on the table - possibly more, depending on the weaponry chosen by the players).

Work in Progress
Last evening I got back to the desk after an entire summer without painting to start splashing some colours on the Zombie Girl from Zombiesmith. I know that I have the boy, too, as they come together in a blister, but where he is...?

Sorry about the yellowish lights - I really need a lightbox for mini photos - but this is the simple base coats: Hair: VMC Khaki Grey, Skin: F Rawhide Shade, Dress: GW Hormagaunt Purple (nightgown will end up in a tender pastel purple. At least I hope so).

It is my plan to have a horde of about 100 undead myself before Christmas, while the other participants should provide 25-30 each, but I hope to get some games on, sooner than that.

Hopefully, I can finish her in a couple of days - but it all depends on how much work I can do in the garden, and how early my kids sleep...
