2018-05-01, Star Wars X-Wing: 3rd Game, The Empire Strikes Back(?), Part 1

As mentioned yesterday, Lea and I started a third game that we did not finish

Rebel Alliance:

Phantom II, Ezra Bridger: 17 pts.
X-Wing, Luke Skywalker: 28 pts.

• R2-D2: 4 pts.
• Proton Torpedoes: 4 pts.

Rebel Alliance Total: 53 pts.

Galactic Empire:

TIE Fighter, Night Beast: 15 pts.
TIE Fighter, Obsidian Squadron Pilot: 13 pts.
TIE Fighter, Obsidian Squadron Pilot: 13 pts.
TIE Fighter, Black Squadron Pilot: 14 pts.
TIE Fighter, Black Squadron Pilot: 14 pts.

Galactic Empire Total: 69 pts.

Obsidian Squadron and Black Squadron swept in to intercept the Rebels.

Black Squadron obviously wanted to outflank the opponents,while Obsidian Squadron fanned out taking Luke head-on.

Which is... not so good an idea...

Night Beast ate a laser blast.
















His wingman opened up on Phantom II, but missed!

Ezra, on the other hand, found his mark and the Imperial pilots probably began to worry a bit.

Night beast only avoided Luke's blasters by employing evasive maneuvers, but he was, understandably, distracted by being tailed by a Rebel Ace, and missed the Phantom.

Ezra, busily avoiding Night Beast's fire, pulled the trigger too late, and missed the TIE.

The Black Squadron Pilot returned fire, and knocked down Phantom's only shield.















One of the Obsidian Squadron Pilots tried to hit Luke's X-Wing from behind, but missed.

Close quarter fighting - actually not allowed by the rules; when bases touch, ships are passing over/under each other and cannot target. Forgot it.

So, the TIE took two hits from the X-Wing.

This is how far we got, yesterday, and although we brought the game to a conclusion this evening, for lack of time I shall have to pause here, and make another post tomorrow about the rest of the game.

2018-05-01, Star Wars X-Wing: Rebels Hitting Hard

Lea and I decided to have another go, this time boosting the Empire's finest a bit.

Rebel Alliance:

Phantom II, Ezra Bridger: 17 pts.
X-Wing, Luke Skywalker: 28 pts.
Rebel Alliance Total: 45 pts.

Galactic Empire:

TIE Fighter, Night Beast: 15 pts.
TIE Fighter, Obsidian Squadron Pilot: 13 pts.
TIE Fighter, Obsidian Squadron Pilot: 13 pts.
Galactic Empire Total: 41 pts.

Basically the same setup as the previous game; Luke is escorting Ezra on some sort of covert op, and they are spotted by a patrol from the Imperial Obsidian Squadron.

Ever the hot-head, this time it seems that Ezra decided to take the opposition head on.

The TIEs came on with high speed, as is their usual take on attacking.

Luke drew two of the three attackers away from Phantom II.

A dogfight ensued.

Luke scored the first kill! Target Lock can be a nasty thing.

Phantom II evades enemy blasts, thanks to Ezra flying focussed.

Skywalker to the rescue!

But the X-Wing fails to hit the TIE.

Luke keeps firing while swooping in on the Imperial pilots.

And takes out the second TIE

Ezra pulls the Phantom into a Koiogran Turn, while the single remaining TIE attempts to evade Lukes arc of fire.

Luke fails to hit the evading TIE, and it starts turning around, the pilot hoping to get a few shots in.




































Both Luke and Ezra attempt to tail the TIE, and Luke acquires a Target Lock on the enemy.























The TIE kept circling the Rebels; would the Empire thwart the plans of Spectre this time?

Not if Luke Skywalker had something to say on the matter...

- As it turned out, he had....

The last TIE went down in flames, and the Rebel Alliance once more carried the day.

Luke is an ace (at least when Lea rolls the dice)!

Another fun game, again very cinematic.

We decided to start another game with two more TIE Fighters and some upgrades to Luke's X-Wing, but we got interrupted, because I had to go pick up Anna from the Animal Clinic where she has an internship this week, and then Anna and Lea both had to go, Anna for her author's class at Ringe Library, and Lea for her gymnastics class, also in Ringe (as it turned out, gymnastics had been cancelled, due to the gym hall being in use for exams, so we got to play a bit more, but did not finish in time for dinner, after which we opted to relax a bit in front of the telly).

We shall pick up on the game tomorrow, I hope, as I need the table cleared for Sellswords and Spellslingers on Saturday.

My Terrain Bases So Far

A small line-up of my finished terrain dressing pieces. I hope to finish two more before the weekend.

2018-05-01, Star Wars X-Wing: Getting Mauled by My Offspring

Lea came home directly from school today, and I seized the opportunity to propose a game of X-Wing, as I have been wanting to see how Phantom II holds up in a dogfight, ever since I bought it some weeks ago.

Lea took command of the Alliance:

Phantom II, Ezra Bridger: 17 pts.
X-Wing, Luke Skywalker, 28 pts.
Rebel Alliance Total: 45 pts.

I grabbed a couple of TIE Fighters for the Empire:

TIE Fighter, Obsidian Squadron Pilot: 13 pts.
TIE Fighter, Obsidian Squadron Pilot: 13 pts.
Galactic Empire Total: 26 pts.

Not very balanced, but I did not want to clutter the table, as our last game was quite a while ago, and I needed to get to grasps with the rules, again.

Luke Skywalker was escorting Ezra Bridger on a secret solo mission.

The Obsidian Squadron patrol spotted the Rebels, raced towards them to intercept.

"Leave the left one to me", Luke said on the comms, threw his X-Wing into a sweeping turn...

...and blasted the opponent out of the skies!

The other TIE tried to cut off Ezra's course.

Ezra pulled Phantom II around...

...aquired Target Lock on the remaining TIE...

 ...fired, and hit it, damaging its weapon systems, effectively halving its firepower!

The Empire pilot swallowed, but decided to fight on, rather than facing the wrath of Lord Vader.











Ion Engines roaring, he pulled his TIE into a Koiogran Turn in an attempt to get his blasters to bear on the shuttle.

Ezra reacted by trying to pull out of the TIE's fire arc, but he did not quite succeed.

But the Force is strong with the Skywalker family, and anticipating the enemy pilot's move, Luke swept in and opened up on the TIE.

The dice speak for themselves. Already having suffered 1 Damage by the hands of young Bridger, the TIE was blown to smithereens by Luke Skywalker's attack. KABOOM!

Shot, but wonderfully cinematic game. I simply LOVE playing casual games of X-Wing, and I should do it much more often!
