2018-07-11, Vacation 2018 - Day 2: Heading Southwest

The first couple of pics are from the site where we spent the night.

Lunchtime in a rest area somewhere at the motorway.

In the evening we checked in at a rather nice little camping site - and I cannot remember if it was in the Netherlands or in Belgium, as I cannot find any documents regarding that stay.

EDIT:

I THINK this might be Park Camping Mooi Delden , about 10 km, from Enschede. It looks a bit different now, though.

I shall have a look at my wife's account statements from that period; she may have paid the bills at this place.

2018-07-10, Vacation 2018 - Day 1; Part 2: The Camping Site

We found the Camping 'am Leuchtturm' (at the Lighthouse) about five km. from the ferry. Very nice!

It seems to be under reorganization, or something, but not closed, and you can find it HERE.

This was our first night away from home with the 'new' trailer - quite memorable!

The site has its own small lake with tent sites along the banks.

Nice playground, too!

And the reason for the camp site's name.

A small anecdote: We gave some salt to a Swedish family neighboring our camp as they asked for a bit for their cooking; Marianne thought it better to give them a small bag so they would have enough for the following breakfast and lunch. if they should not be able to find a grocery store right away.

2018-07-10, Vacation 2018 - Day 1; Part 1: On the Road Again, and Crossing the Elbe!

As mentioned, we purchasecd a larger camping traiker in the autumn of 2017, as we felt that the trusty 1963 Eccles was getting too claustrophobic for a family of four (and kids getting bigger every day).

So, in 2018 we set course for France with our 1989 CI Wilk de Luxe.

There were reports of heavy traffic queing around Hamburg, due to road maintenance works both in and around the Elbe Tunnel, so we decided from home to avoid Hamburg and cross the Elbe by ferry at Glückstadt, approximately 30 km. north-west of the city.

It is one of those crossings where the ferries are pendling back and forth all the time, and you cannot book in advance - it's first come, first served, so spent about an hour in the queue, Woth it though, compared to sitting at least as long in stop-and-go queues on the motorway without the possiblilty of getting out and enjoy the weather.

The view is better at Glückstadt, too!

It was quite late in the afternoon when we arrived on the south bank of the Elbe, so we set about finding a camping site for the night.

2017-07-15, Summer Holidays 2017: Lundeborg Iron Age Fair

As mentione earlier, we visited the Iron Age Fair in Lundeborg some days after returning from sweden. I did not take as many photos as I usually do at this kind of events, but here is a few views of the site.

More Stone Slabs

Soon, there will be a short break from these, as I have only three more prepped, based, and primed.

I found a couple of rogue 'leaves' when tidying up my pain(t) station, so I glued them on.

I hope to finish Merry Brandybuck tomorrow (one of those diminutive plastic sculpts from The Mines of Moria) - he has taken me far too long!

Old Mini, New Life

Something a bit different today, but I am following all my whims at the time being.

I haven been doing some work on this old fella over time. He was block painted many years ago for a D&D character I was GM'ing for back then (apart form the skin which was patially shaded and highlighted).

He has been given a new base (surprise!), and then a wash with Agrax Earthshade on his clothing and gear (apart from the lantern and the knife).

His hair was a stark yellow colour, so I have repainted it with a more natural hue (I hope).

Finally, I have given him eyes.
I have taken som pics from different angles; I am quite pleased with the effect of the shading.
From the back. Nothing to complain about, here.
I used to be able to arrange up to three small pics aside, but Blogger must have changed something - it seems impossible to line up pics these days.
