Blood Eagle: Renedra 'Saxon' Tents

Couple of days ago, these 'Saxon' tents arrived with my order from Renedra. They will see service in most of the Dark Ages armies I shall ever get painted (and probably get company of another sprue or two.).

Pity, really, that no nice models of the Oseberg tent is available for 28mm Vikings. I have seen an overpriced laser-cut one with fabric tent, but a sprue like this, with a small assortment, would find its way to many tables, I believe.

Blood Eagle: Extra Warriors

I had a couple of parts left over from constructing, so I decided to assemble some more warriors.

The slinger will join another another one that I have had in my Dark Ages minis box for more than a year, and I'll do yet another very soon, as I have an idea for a scenario.

The shieldwall warrior is just fairly generic, and may find his place in another warband.

Just now, I plan to get some shieldmaidens from Bad Squiddo Games for my next Viking warband, but I think I shall build some Saxons, first.

I assembled my first bowman from the Conquest archer set today - he needs a bit of cleaning up after an axe handle repair, but then Sigurdr's warband is at full strength, and painting shoud commence very soon!

Blood Eagle: Conquest Medieval Archers

I got these in the mail yesterday, just in time, as the rest of my warband is almost ready for primer.

Now I can get startted on Ivar, the last missing member of the crew.

Below are the sprues laid out to dry, after I washed them in hot water with detergent, and rinsed them thoroughly, first in clean hot water, then cold water to get rid of any soap residue.

I am a bit confused, as to why Conquest Games chose to have only 28 minis in this set; the box was clearly designed to contain about double the number of sprues, and at a price of £20, the per mini price is almost double that of similar sets (their own Norman Infantry set contains 44 figures at the same price). Well, this set will cater for my archery needs for a long time, so I shall not whine on about this for long... ;o)

Blood Eagle: Filling the Bases

As usual, as I have not gotten around to make some 'Gloop' (recipe by Captain Blood @LAF), I splash a couple of layers of wall filler on the bases to get a more realistic finish when they are finally covered in sand and painted, and here is the current state of the warband with the first helping of filler.

Blood Eagle: Using Excess Greenstuff

I REALLY do not remember where I bought these Dark Age buildings - but being resin, they have a lot of little imperfections (especially on the thatched roofs) that need mending, and what better place to dispose of that excess greenstuff?

Blood Eagle: Some Minor Sculpting Done

I did not manage to get the greenstuff out until today, but here are the results. The axes should have been positioned a bit lower, and the 'loop' on the left one should have been placed more in line with the belt, but, hey, not all that bad for my first attempt on sculpting extra details on minis, I'd say...

Blood Eagle: SMER Drakkar, Waterlining

I cut the bottom from the hull this morning (using my Dremel). The bottom of the ship needs to be grinded down a bit more, but the Dremel probably saved me quite some time.

As I predicted, the table now shows through the oarsman 'rooms', and I shall have to come up with a solution to this; maybe I just shall cover the 'rooms' with some scored balsa...
