SotHT: Mission Accomplished!

So, 8 years and almost 5 months (short of 3 days) after the first posting about this on the LAF, I have now finally finished this project according to the original plans (and then some).

This was originally intended to be used with the .45 Adventure rules, and the factions have been fleshed out according to that.

In the meantime, I have decided to instead use the Pulp Alley rules, and I shall have to make some changes to build the factions as 'Leagues' - but that is a project for later this year.

Below you will find pictures of a set-up of both the archaelogical site and the sub-terranean Hidden Temple with all the minis I currently plan to use for the scenario.

Argonor's Undead Horde is Growing in Numbers!

I have added a new leader and another 'normal' member to my Skeleton Warrior unit (the guys with axes are destined to become members of another warrior unit).

The standard bearer is absent because I need to highlight the banner, and varnish it because I have added a transfer to it.
I have also painted  a Skeleton Horde unit, for which I need to find a standard bearer and a musician - but until then they will have to do as is.

I have another Skeleton Horde in the works, and I expect to get most of the work done on it before we leave for Italy later this summer.

Below is a picture of both units in their current state of completion. Another Skeleton Horde, and a Necromancer, and I shall be able to field 36 points. After that I shall add more Warriors, and probably another Skeleton Horde, and for the Command and Support I am planning a unit of Guardians of Midnight.

My Blood Gorged/Vikings have not seen much progress, but I guess I shall try to get at least one unit done soon after our vacation (I am buying in on the new Osprey game Frostgrave BIG time with Ulolkish, and I think I am going to use some Dark Age warriors for at least one warband).

Old Citadel Ethereals

I am going to pop open this old blister in a few days, to flesh out a unit of Guardians of Midnight for my GoB Lords of Undeath army.

Oh, the joys of rummaging through one's purchases of olden glory!

I am only going to use the 'guy' with the double-mace raised over his head, as I have already a primed version of the pointing one with the crown to use as leader, and I am going to use a muisisian from a Skeleton Command Group as the 6th and last member of the unit - and I already have 3 of these floating wights/wraiths/whatever painted up since ages (how very appropriate).

But, first I have to get two Skeleton Hordes finished that I have in the works (the first is close to being finished), and get my Necromancer painted up so he can join the ranks and - hopefully - give my army some needed staying power by conjuring up the support of our fallen enemies.

JDMG: Street Rumble, Take Two (2015-05-27), Part 2

The Chimps got spurred on by the success of their Gorilla leader.

Zeppo ran up to one of the 'Runners and bashed her over the head with his club
Meanwhile, Chico felt outgunned , and moved to flank the opposition

Harpo used the cover of the industrial complex to try getting into an advantageous position.
One of the 'Runners started spraying Zeppo with hot lead...

...while Groucho was facing a lot of opposition...
...and, in a blood frenzy, decided to try getting up close and personal.

While Chico kept circling the street ladies...

...Zeppo was quicly dispatched.

Trixie's girls were controlling the central sgructures at this point.
This concludes part 2 of this rumble.

We are going to finish the game tomorrow after a break that was forced on us by Real Life, and I expect to get the rest of the write-up done soonish.

Working with Wood.

We have been very busy getting 5 cubic metres of firewood into the shed and stacked up nicely.

It was delivered Wednesday evening, and as the weather forecast promised rain Saturday, it  was necessary to get it under a roof right away.

I was moving the wood on my wheelbarrow, while the kids stacked it up.

We got everything into the shed by Friday evening, and the last bit stacked up today.

JDMG: Street Rumble, Take Two (2015-05-27), Part 1

This game was (started) before I put up the last light bulbs, and the decorative shields, and I had not finished moving stuff around, either. As a consequence, the attic still looked a bit messy, but most of the mess has since been sorted, so no worries for Attic Attack!

Before moving the Sci-fi stuff to the attic, I assembled the buildings and barricades from the Necromunda Outlanders supplement, so I could almost fill the board with industrial buildings and ruins.

I am planning a big purchase of ruins from Ziterdes later this summer, as I have just entered the Frostgrave 'Nickstarter'  at wizard Lvl 3, and some of those ruins will be very fitting for sci-fi gaming, too!

I shall not make this purchase until after we return from our summer holidays, though, as I need to take the financial state into consideration, that the vacation leaves in its wake.

Below there is a link to the 'Nickstarter', should someone be interested in the game; it seems to have a theme similar to Mordheim, but in a ruined, frozen city, and with much more focus on wizardry:

For this Street Rumble, I made a gang from my painted apes (purchased second hand from a LAF member some years ago).

Groucho, the Gorilla, with the Chimps Chico, Harpo, and Zeppo.

Ulolkish again played Trixie's Midnight Runners, and I was heavily outnumbered right from the start - but I have corrected some cut-and-paste errors on the girls' roster, as a lot of them were recorded with a non-existent armour value, so my apes should at least have more staying power than the opposition.

We started out using the following House Rules to try them out:

1: Moving and Shooting
It is possible to combine a move action with shooting; with a -1 modifier if moving/shooting without having moved first, -2 if moving/shooting after already having moved this activation.

2: Moving Target
It is more difficult to hit a moving opponent than one standing still. Thus, each Move and/or Move/Shoot action during an activation gives a model a +1 Agility modifier for rolling to avoid being hit (thus, up to a maximum of +2 per Phase). This modifier is immediately lost when the model is activated in its next phase.

The red markers are movement markers, one for each movement made.

The game started with my apes crawling all over the industrial tower near my table edge - the Apes treat vertical surfaces as horisontal for moving, as long as they can end their move on a horisontal space - and Trixie's street girls fanned out to cover as much open space as possible.

Chico faced a 'Runner on the far left
Some 'Runners moved closer, using the ruins and the barricades for cover.

A rain of lead was exchanged over the central area.

One of the 'Runners had to buy it! Groucho grinned, and slipped another clip into his Spit Gun.
Two 'Runners closed in to avenge their fallen comrade.

This concludes Part 1 - stay tuned for the next episode!

Summer Time - Quiet Time.

As some of my regular guests in these hallowed halls may have noticed, I have not been making updates as frequently as normal this last week or so.

June and July are for me always bound to have slightly less activity on the hobby front, as outdoor activities (big old house, large garden) and vacations away from home have to take precedence over tinkering with little warriors.

June also sees the birthday of my first-born, Anna, and it is always quite a puzzle to find time for her party in between barbeques, school and/or SFO (after-school daycare for 0-3rd graders) events, and various events at out work-places.

I shall try to post a couple of updates over the summer, but I do not want to update just for the sake of it, so, please bear with me, should the pauses get a bit long.

Here's some cake, as decorated by my kids - both with and without the dozen candles, denoting that my daughter may be liable to appear before a court, should she get into bad company and do something stupid - all depending on the outcome of the upcoming parliament election.

Well, well....

SotHT: Rebasing the Last Mini!

All I need to do to accomplish what I pledged to do, is getting the Grave Robber's base finished, and I can lay out the entire project for a photo.

I am not going to take the 'completed' picture until after Anna's birthday party, as I don't want to de forced to put it aside immediately after the photo session, Thus, it will have to be postponed to June 20th, as the party is the 19th.

But, in the meantime I shall get this little bugger ready for the table - as you can see, removing the old base has resulted in some of the paint chipping off the feet, so I shall probably have to experiment a bit to find the colours I used (unless I have actually recorded them somewhere in these pages).

I did not use artificial light for the photo, that, combined with 'indoor' setting ogf the camrea is the reason for the pale colours - I shall try taking this kind of pics with another setting.

Well, all for now - as I am writing this, the sand is drying on the base, and should be ready for painting tomorrow!

SotHT: Finishing the Last Bits!

Realizing that the deadline for the 'It's Alive Painting Club' is drawing close, I thought I'd better bet my act together, and begin the last phase of the project.

Therefore, I finished painting the stone stairs I built to ease access to the Hidden Temple, and although I could give it another highlight, I think it will have to do as is.

I gave it another heavy drybrush of 'Amber Light', then a drybrush of 'Ivory'.

Attic 99%

I have put up the last light bulbs, and some decorative shields made for a LARP campaign some 12-13 years ago.

I now just need to move some boxes, turn the old desk, and put up an extra table, which going between the window and the row of tables down the middle.

I also have two large shields that I intend to hang on the 'towers' on the bar.

There is another couple of weeks before Anna's birthday party for her classmates, so I should have ample time for the last touches.
